Missed Lunar Eclipse

This is what it might have looked like…

372 years.  That’s how long it’s been since a lunar eclipse graced our skies at the same time as the winter solstice.  372 years!  I know this because Mum and Dad were there.  (kidding, Mum…)  Actually, I know this because all day the newspeople have been telling us that this was going to be worth watching.  Everything was going to be lined up perfectly, with the Milky Way positioned behind the moon.  It was going to be quite a sight.  Don’t miss it!  It doesn’t happen very often!  Yeah.. there was the little problem of it happening around 4am, but that’s fine… I had to work anyway.  I’d simply take my break and go out onto the roof.  I watched another lunar eclipse from there a few years ago, but it was nothing compared to what this one would be like!  (Actually, the other one was quite neat to see!)

Just one little problem…
It’s quite yucky out there tonight.  Yes folks, that is a technical term.  Yucky.  It means “an abundance of yuck”.  Don’t bother to look it up.  Trust me.  Would I lie to you?  Don’t answer that.
I put my winter coat on, and unlocked the door to the roof… only to have that door get caught in an amazing gust of wind, and nearly take my arm with it.  It’s insane!  I managed to step outside and not blow away… but it was pointless.  There’s not a single bright spot in the sky anywhere to be seen.  Needless to say, I was more than a little disappointed.  When I told the doctor that I was going to make some changes, and maybe add a few more years to my life, I really wasn’t thinking of 372 more… that seems a little excessive to me.
So now I’m just going to have to watch it on the evening news when I wake up.  Surely somewhere in the world they can see it better than I can here.
372 years!
